In the Know About Our Grooming Services
New Groomers Paul and Opal Walsh
Two new groomers were recently added to our staff: Paul and Opal Walsh, a husband and wife tag-team. Both Paul and Opal first got into grooming with the help of their dogs. Opal’s German Shepherd dog KT was a bit of a bad dog, she admits, and was constantly kicked out of grooming shops due to her behavior. Nobody would take KT, so Opal started grooming her Shepherd herself. In 1994 she took a job at Petsmart, where she was trained further at their grooming academy. Opal eventually went on to manage the grooming shops at the Riverdale and Layton Petsmart locations for ten years.
Paul’s birth into the grooming business was almost identical. He owned a large white Samoyed named Nick, and any Samoyed owner knows just how expensive hygienic care for such a dog can be, so he read up on grooming techniques and began to use Nick as his “demo dog.” When walking through Petsmart with Nick one day, Paul was asked by an employee who grooms his dog. He replied, “I do,” and was offered a job. Coincidentally, Opal was his boss.
Upon being hired, Paul was sent by Petsmart to Paragon, an academy for show groomers in Michigan. He eventually became the trainer for salon managers and stylists for all Petsmart locations in Utah and Idaho.
Paul and Opal wed in 2002 and left Petsmart in November, 2009, in order to pursue a career as a husband and wife grooming team. They now cut, bathe, and style side-by-side in our little shop at Quail Pointe.
